Hello everyone.

I am a very happy owner of the Nikon D800E which I use with a few prime lenses. However, my wife is not so happy ever since I replaced the Nikon D7000 (and a 18-200mm DX zoom lens) with the D800E. She misses using the Auto and Program functions on the D7000 along with the zoom to take candid shots of the kids, family, and friends without any fuss. I have no complaints with the D800E especially since it is really my toy.

So now I am thinking whether it might not be such a bad idea to purchase another (cheaper) Nikon DSLR along with a zoom lens that my wife and family can use for casual photography. I would prefer to buy full frame vs. APS-C (that could serve as a backup body to my D800E) but unfortunately I fear that will be out of my budget of below $1000.

As always, I turn to all of you for good advice and suggestions on what to buy. Looking forward to your feedback.

Thank you!
