"D5000 memory Buffer"

I have just received my D5000 back from it's recall and the read out for the memory buffer for Continuous Release Mode in the OVF says that I have only 13 shots available. I didn't believe this and did a test and sure enough after 13 the shutter slowed down to about 1 per second. If I stop after about 6 shots, the availability in the buffer is up to 13 again! According to the user's manual (page 66), I should expect up to 100 images to be taken in continuous release mode.

Is there a problem with my camera or am I misreading the manual? Is there a button I should have pressed? Is there a button I SHOULD have pressed? I can't find anything in the Manual to help.

The number of images that can fit in the fixed image buffer is dependent upon what you image type is set to. Jpeg small will provide the largest number, and Raw + Jpeg Large will have the smallest number of images. This number will also change with the exact type of images being captured. Just like the remaining exposure count, this number is only and estimate.
