"D3100 stock issues"

GB

I am looking to upgrade my D40 to a new D3100, but am having a little difficulty in finding stock in the UK.

I am being told that this is due to the flooding in Thailand, and that stock is very low in the UK.

Does this ring true - anyone else having difficulty in finding stock?

Should I just ride this out and wait, or go for an alternative. If so, what?

Thanks.

Look at the news at the Nikon site. The floods last fall in Thailand caused a very large amount of damage to a a large area of Thailand.
Nikon expects normal manufacturing levels to be restored at the end of March 2012.

3rd Notice on the damage from the flood in Thailand
4th Notice on the damage from the flood in Thailand

Then there are the natural disasters that befell Japan.

You might want to review the Nikon corporate news at the global Nikon site.

Even Canon reported the devastation on their finances for 2011.

Thanks George.

Figured that what I was told made sense, and should have done a bit more searching, but I knew that I would get a sensible answer on here!

Cheers Jamie, I will bear it in mind!

I am in Bedford, but will try the local Comet stores, see if I have any luck.

Jessops and Digital Depot both out of stock...

When I got mine (back in November) here in Canada, the sales person told me that the Nikon rep had said that the stocks for everything that come from Thailand would be impacted due to the flooding, and to expect things out of stock. They even ran their Christmas sales in November so they had product - now all the sales are on Canon gear.
