"Nikon D5100 Intelligent Panoramic Mode News"

GB

Hi,

As far as I am aware the D5100 does not have an intelligent panoramic mode feature, does anyone know if Nikon are planning to introduce this feature to future models?

I am in the market for a new DSLR and my choice would have been the D5100 although I would have preferred if there was some kind of intelligent panoramic feature without having to stitch several photos on the pc.

Is there a way we can suggest this to Nikon directly?

I'm not sure what you mean. Making a panorama, an image wider than the "width" of the lens, always involves stitching separate images together on the computer. I can imagine automating the process but not doing away with it entirely.

I use Image Composite Editor (download from Microsoft for free) for casual stitching (you just throw a bunch of files at it and get a composite rikki tik) and Hugin (open source) for the more serious stuff.

Visit my Nikonians gallery.

Some compact digital cameras have a built-in panorama feature.

That's exactly what I mean, some point&shoots have automatic panoramic mode,... just wondering if this will be introduced to DSLRs

Doubtful, to be frank. It's been around for more than a decade, and Nikon's had plenty of opportunity to pick it up. They haven't. I wouldn't be surprised if some other folks do, though.
