"D5000 file naming glitch"

Tucson, US

My D5K has started applying consistently inconsistent names to my files and the images show up out of time sequence on download in Nikon Transfer. The odd ones have to be manually renamed. Names will be DSC2251, ..52, .. 53, ..., in sequence until the next image in line becomes DSC2251_01, and the next ..52_01. So it is that a block of numbers, having been applied to one set of files, is appended with "_01" and applied to the next set of files. On download, the sets are interleaved.

It is consistent in that the blocks are in sequence and, by sorting on time of exposure, I can identify where they fit. Renaming is a pain in the patoot.

I do not use the DSC number but rename files to the date and a serial that starts afresh each day so I plan to reset the numbering to start at DSC0001 but I somehow doubt that will help.

Visit my Nikonians gallery.

I have a 5100 and last night mine started renaming files at DSC_0001.jpg from the previous picture of DSC_1280.jpg....Not sure why or what i might have done to reset the file naming process. Anyone else have this happen? Can I get it to continue in numerical order? Thanks in advance - Dan
