If you live in the UK or Ireland, and are considering a D5000, you might like to know that Nikon UK are offering £50/60 euro cashback when bought with one AF-S lens, or £75/90 euro if bought with 2 AF-S lenses. Now that the street price of the D5000 has come down to something more realistic compared to the D90, this makes it look even better value.

Don't know how good a buy I got ... $1099.99 - kit w/2VR lenses,2Nikon school videos,Nikon photography book,Nikon bag for all, and a Sandisk 4gig card.Then a month and two days later ... Costco gave a manufactures rebate ...$100.00 (in store).Costco was very good about it(past one month)and credited my card $100.00 !!!Even if I only did OK , I got to use the camera - get settled in (all that time) ... since June 2nd.
