"D3000"

Victoria, CA

While trying to help a friend with their D3000, I could not determine if the camera is capable of working in "Commander Mode" with a SB 600 flash unit. If so, where is the menu item to set it up accordingly? Thanks for any assistance.

I'm afraid your friend is out of luck. The D3000 has no Commander Mode for controlling remote Speedlight(s)

As noted the camera does not have a 'commander' mode for the pop-up flash. Your friend will need to buy an SB-900/700 or used SB-800 Speedlight. All of these models have a 'Master/Commander' mode. The SB-900/800 units can control 3 remote groups and the SB-700 only controls 2 remote groups.

That is more or less what I had assumed. Thanks to all who responded. This forum is a great resource. I don't have the manual for the D3000 camera and trying to prove a negative can be difficult.
My own cameras: a D300 and a D7000 have no problem with this feature.
Thanks again.

Once you have registered with Nikon, you can download any user manual in the PDF format.

I think you can download view only copies without registering. If you register then you can download printable copies too.

Hi Phil,

By mounting an SB-700, SB-800, SB-900, or SU-800 in the D3000's hotshoe, any of these Speedlight will provide "Commander Mode".
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty
