To be brutally honest, it just doesn't matter. All of these are good enough that they aren't the limiting factor in a budding photographer's development, and neither of them are, in practice, what an amateur "power-user" would want. So it boils down to personal preference - as some said, how they feel - or other external factors, such as the help one can get from canonians.org. (Or not. Hint: canonians.org does not exist.)
The crop factor is NOT a useful discriminator between Nikon and Canon. For every circumstance under which the slightly wider 1.5x proves to be "better," there is another one where Canon's 1.6x is slightly preferable. On a system basis, Canon and Nikon both offer 1.0x (eg "full frame") and Canon also offer a limited selection of 1.3x bodies.

They are both very simalr in features and capability. The Cannon has a few (2) more megapixeles. The Nikon has a few (2) more AF points and one full stop higher ISO capability. The D3000 feels better and more solid in my hands than the Canon. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
