"D5000 VR 1.4, 1.8 35MM LENS"

Does Nikon or a third party make a fast wide angle lens with vibration reduction at a reasonable price. If third party will all the features of the camera be usable.

Welcome to Nikonians!

I'm afraid no-one makes a fast (under f/2.8) wide angle lens with VR

By the way, a 35mm lens is more of a "standard" focal length on a DX camera like the D5000. For a real wide-angle, you'd need something of around 24mm or less.

Hi John,

Welcome to Nikonians!
If you are looking for wide angle prime lenses none have VR.
The new Nikkor 16-35mm f/2.8G AF-S VR is the only fast wide angle lens with VR available.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Will the f 2.8 be fast enough to capture birthday pictures with available light. Especillay the "biggy", the blowing out of the candles?

That depends on how much available light you have. Some houses are lighted better than others. Either way, you will probably need to bump up your ISO.

Hi John,

Joe hit the nail on the head!
If the ambient light level is good; no problem.
If the ambient light level is very low, you might have a difficult time even using an f/1.4 prime.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty
