"Macro shot"

I want to take some macros of my knife collection and am wondering if I should use the 18-55 or 55-200 kit lens.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to Nikonians!
Both versions of the 18-55mm have a slightly higher Maximum Reproduction Ratio than either version of the 55-200mm. Therefore the 18-55mm should be a better choice.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Dave,

both lenses are not macro lenses.

The 55-200 has a minimum distance of 3,1ft, the 18-55 0,9ft.

Try it out, which one suits better. But again, it´s not possible to make real macro images.
