"Printing help"

I am about to send off some images to get printed (for standout mount). the size of the print i want to print is 12" X 18". The image fits perfectly within this size (after crop)....i just want to know if i have the right amount of pixels (4608 X 2915) for print before the image gets distorted. Here is the image (re-sized for uploading purposes) that i want to send to print for comparison:

I cant remember where i read such information, but i remember reading a certain amount of pixels are required before you start to lose its quality? I am not sure exactly, so i figured i better ask before i start spending any money. any and all help will be great!

Jesse

Usually files are printed at 300 dpi unless you make arrangements otherwise. So if you want the print to be 18" x 12", you probably want the files to be 5400 x 3600. If you're using Photoshop I'd use the bicubic smoother algorithm, and then you'll want to do sharpening as a last step. Whether or not it is good enough is for you to decide, and there isn't a strong rule of thumb. For some types of subject and scene, you can get away with a considerable enlargement. For others, much less will be judged acceptable.

Thanks Brian! i probably need to go back to the original and see what i can do. yes prints are 300dpi, no other requests were made. My prints will be coming out of WHCC. I sent my test prints to see if my monitor is on par with their printing.

If you follow their instructions to the letter, the results are distinctly professional quality. Whcc is a very high quality operation.

Thats what i am basically doing. I downloaded their program and the image fits dead perfect within their parameters. so we will see how it turns out. But i am imprssed with their service so far, seems spot on. I am eager to see how my test prints came out so i can make some orders.
