This is an old topic, but one of few I see about SNS-HDR.

I stumbled across it last night while doing my every-year-or-so tour through all the tools trying to find one I like. Including CS6 (which I didn't find any better than CS5 for HDR).

So far I really like this, I'm getting much more photo-realistic results with it, and surprisingly good alignments (though so far from tripod shots).

Any other users out there?

PS. I was pleasantly surprised it read D800 raw files without complaint.

Hi,

This weekend I downloaded a trial copy of SNS-HDR Pro and was very pleased with its capabilities. I processed two groups of three images using Photomatrix, Oloneo and HDR Efix Pro and concluded that SNS-HDR Pro did the best job of creating realistic HDR images without the need for any adjustments.

Thanks for the info on this product.

I missed this post when it was new. It looks like the SNS software works very well.

These shots are really impressive. I'm looking for a new HDR processor, but haven't had time yet to test the various offerings. I did several hundred HDRs last winter, using CS5. I (and my customer)was fairly pleased in general with the results, once I eventually learned the program's quirks. I know these images can be do done better, though, so I need new software. I've been leaning toward Oloneo, because of its reputation for processing speed (CS5 is agonizingly slow) and its reputation for easily giving realistic looking results.

How fast is SNS, compared to Oloneo??

I can't answer relative to Oloneo, but SNS was faster than CS6. The other thing I have not explored is that SNS has some batch automation available (though it may be in the pro version which is a bit more expensive).

Once the initial processing was done, the screen updates as you make changes were nearly instant (admittedly I have a decent system, but I also was using a D800 so lots of pixels; I was very pleasantly surprised a relatively small player had D800 capable software).

This image was made from 3 D700 TIF files, & took approx 10 sec to tone map on an i7 2600K with 8Gb Ram.

I think he uses a 3rd party PD raw converter. For those interested my workflow is as follows. Shoot raw & develop raw files in LR4. Use LR export function to export raws to SNS as TIFs. Use SNS then use LR auto import to bring back to LR.

That's interesting, I had been going straight from Lightroom NEF's through a plugin provided into SNS with the NEF's.

Do you find a benefit of going through the TIFs? Is it because you are editing in Lightroom before the HDR process? Besides the size differential of the input files (my D800 would be about 250 meg each, so a 5 series is over a Gig it has to create then read), I would have thought that the linear data in the NEF was a better candidate to go into the ton mapping? (But I have no reason to say that, just guess).

Its only because I like to adjust the files before sending them to SNS ...

After reading this thread I decided to download this program and try it. I ran an HDR series through it that I'd processed in HDR Efex Pro for comparison. I was really impressed with the results especially in the sky. I'm willing to admit that part of this may be due to my skill level with HDR Efex Pro, but this is the first time I tried SNS and I like the result.

I'm posting both. The SNS has a watermark because it's a trial version.

John

1. HDR Efex Pro version. Rocks perhaps oversaturated

2. SNS version

Better sky in SNS (but needs a bit of post processing) and the rocks are a little over saturated with Nik. Both of them have done some weird things to the snow which doesn't look natural. The snow has become very grey with lots of texture.
