""new" D700"

Adelaide, AU

Well it has arrived and in wonderful nick! So far I am really happy with it, especially the low light! Which is what I was looking for coming from a D300.

Two things I really notice is the shutter is a lot more 'mechanical' sounding than the D300, louder in fact and a other is the control joy stick type button on the back feels loose and sloppier, it sticks up more. But obviously is because they are different cameras!

Am really looking forward to playing with this camera!! Thanks everyone for backing my gut feeling that this was the camera I wanted/needed!

Yup played with it more and I am loving it. Poor D300 has served me so well, travelled everywhere and now is languishing in my camera case... even had it's blackrapid strap taken away...

Off with old, on with the new.. Although it will come out in a couple of weeks when I go to a one day equestrian event. Love the extra reach then! And it is outdoors!

Congrats on the new D700, you will enjoy using it. The D700 is definitely a loud camera sound wise, and my only complaint. Have not seen any control issues though, it is a well built body. Mine is now my second camera to my D4, a much quieter body, and super performer.

Cheers,
Gene

Took it to a little circus that came to town, and although the light wasn't that dim, shows it can do it's stuff!! Am really happy just have to get used the the full frame. Only took the 24-70 with me, so no close ups..

Congrats on your "NEW" D700. I had a D200 and D300 and got a deal on a D700 w/grip (less than 1800 actuations). Sold the D200 and am very happy with the D300/D700 combo. You're gonna be very happy.

Tried it out indoors the other day and am sooo happy ISO 2000 and still really usable woooooo.

But having said this took the D300 to the One Day Event and it took super shots miles away and after cropping they were still usable. Also took portraits of some children and they came out lovely. The 70-200 is no slouch.

So I feel I have the perfect combination of cameras and lenses now. One happy little camper...

I'll add my congratulations. Great acquisition of a fine camera. Funny that you love the shutter sound. It's the one thing I dislike about the camera. Different strokes and all that.

Marilyn -- When I got my first D700 about 6 months after they appeared (I have two now) my vocabulary the first several weeks was pretty much limited to one word: "Wow!" After three years I still experience a "Wow" feeling quite often, although I am coming more and mores simply to expect superior performance. I think you are at the point in obtaining photo equipment where you can focus on lenses. Things will only get better from here on out. My conclusion about the D700 is that it is a camera that has finally exceeded the capability of the best film/camera combinations I enjoyed during my 50 years of photgraphy. Enjoy!

Marilyn - That was smart to get the glass you wanted. The 35-70 is an amazing performer and can almost be stolen on the used market. I had one for a long time and probably shouldn't have sold it. It was -- in retrospect -- an awesome walk around lens: small, sharp and a constant f2.8 aperture. Enjoy your camera and the Nikonians web site. There are not a lot of questions you can ask and not get a prompt, concise and correct response here. People are very respectful and courteous as well.

Hi Marilyn

Glad you are enjoying your new D700. I got mine last July and I say wow every time I take a photo.

I dont really think about the shutter too much, Im just so glad the darn thing focuses properly.

Hi to all,
i'm back on the forum after some while.
I back up everything that has been said about the D700.
I just still love mine after more than a year.(i feel the same about the 'clak' sound too...)
I have the same combination of cameras(D300 & D700).The D300 has just been serviced and i'm enjoying it again.
I covered a wedding last Sunday on the beach.I used my 2 sb900.I like the result.
So i wish you good work with your 2 cameras.
