"Number of camera clicks on a D700"

Kirkland, WA, US

I just bought a D700 with less than 3000 clicks and would like to verify it. The camera takes great pictures with a 85mmf1.8D lens.

Looking thru the D700 manual, I could not find any reference to the number of clicks.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

James

Opanda's exif reader is one software that will give this information. You'll need to open an unedited origional image, and close to the bottom of the window is a listing for the total number of shutter actuations.

I use photoME; its similar to Opanda. Its freeware. Just giving you options, James.

(The D700 does not explicitly show you how many shutter clicks and image numbering can be reset, so that is not an accurate way to check.)

I tried the software on an unedited NEF file that was transferred to PSE 8 and the program did not work.

Thank you everyone!
I used CS5 and myshuttercount.com on an unedited .jpg picture.
The shutter count was 9202 with both programs.
The D700 camera looks and feels new and takes great pictures.
The stated click count of less than 3000 was not accurate.
I guess the shutter is good for some 100,000 actuations.

I have 31707 clicks on my D300, and it works great.
What is the largest count experienced?

The cameras go well beyond the stated actuation. I've seen reports here of 200,000 releases. Whether it is 3000 or 9000 is probably not very important - both numbers are at the extreme low end.

There are some activities that create multiple actuations - such as using Live View.

There have been some stats on failure. In general, between 1000 and 70,000 would be random failure with equal opportunity for failure regardless of the shutter releases. At the 70,000 and up level you start to see a higher incidence of failure but those cameras have also been used hard and may have other contributing factors.

I'd view it like miles on a car - below 70,000 releases it is relatively unimportant.

Camera Shutter Life Expectancy Database is a user completed database. You have to look the D700 up in the site map. The list also reports how many cameras were alive or dead at the count range. Be aware that some self reported data could be in error. But it is clear that there are working D700's with over 150,000 actuations.

You can also use an unedited Jpeg at Shutter Actuations.

I recently passed 90,000 shutter clicks on my D700, and it’s still going strong. Anybody know how much it costs to replace a D700 shutter once it fails?
