"One of the first pictures from my D700"

Luling, US

I took this picture this evening in my back yard. We have a healthy population of lizards, and they prowl the vines growing along the fence. This guy had just emerged from the vines and jumped onto the fence and he was in the process of turning from green to brown to camouflage himself. He started puffing his neck out to show dominance. I squeezed off a series of shots, and this is the best of the bunch. He quickly retreated to the safety of the vines when I tried to get closer. The detail in the texture of his skin is amazing.

Nikon D700 with Nikkor 70-300mm VR lens @ 300mm and f/5.6 - Aperture Priority Mode - ISO 400 - 1/400th sec. - post processed in Lightroom 4.1 and Topaz.

I just recently (last week) received my new D700, and I am just blown away with the detail and richness of the pictures.

Another one from my new D700!

Here's a shot of a green dragonfly on a green ivy leaf - the late evening sun is casting the dragonfly's shadow onto the leaf below him - it is almost as if the dragonfly is contemplating his own shadow. I took this late evening (around 6:30 PM), so the sun was a major factor in this shot.

Nikon D700 w/Nikkor 70-300 VR @ 300mm - f/8.0 - ISO 800 - Aperture Priority - 1/400th shutter speed - post processed in Lightroom 4.1 and Topaz.

Only The Shadow Knows!

I am so pleased and amazed with the image quality this camera is able to produce. I've shot DX cameras for years. This D700 is one special machine. I've shot a D300 for a long time - so this D700 is second nature to me - but I just can't get over the image quality that this camera produces. Thanks for the kudos. Man, I love this camera!

Nice shots, Mike. I picked up a second hand D700 just a bit ago (coming from a D7000) and the first few I squeezed off left my jaw agape. And that was a shot of a fabric pattern on a pillow. Haven't wiped the smile off of me yet!!!

Great shots, particularly the dragon fly. The D700 is scary isn't it?

I have to agree. I am a D300 shooter, but if I were in the market to move up, I think it would be to a D700, not the 800.
