Is it possible to split the D800 away from the D700 in the Nikonian forums. The two cameras are very different and both remain available, which indicates that even Nikon do not consider the D800 as a replacement for D700.

I would have to agree, as someone who moved from a D90 t0 the D800 it makes not sense to me why the D800 and D700 forms are combined. I am sure it must be very frustrating for the D700 owners.

Not to this D700 owner. I personally have no problem with the combined forum.

Thanks for looking into the topic. Nikon states the D800 is not the D700's replacement. They claim it is an entirely new class of camera. 2 more bodies are due this year. I expect one of them will be the missing D700 upgrade.

Also the D700 is still being manufactured only because of left over parts. It's withdrawal is imminent, we just don't know when. Natural disasters have meant a lot less of some model cameras were made in the last year than expected.

D800 gets a forum all to itself means cool factor +10.
