"Are all D700s the same?"

Newton, US

Is a current D700 any different than the first ones sold in 2008? When I bought mine in 2009 there were rumors of an improved version coming soon, but it looks like that never happened.

That improved version is the D800.

Hi John,

The only difference would be the firmware version that was loaded at the factory.
The latest current firmware is 1.02.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Like Marty said.....Only difference is the firmware update which you can get (and you should if you do not have it) from Nikon.

The D800 is a different camera, not a D700 upgrade.

The D800 does video, has too many MP which creates huge file sizes etc, etc, and cost far more money.

Be glad you bought the D700!

I only found out about the new firmware a few months ago. I had been wishing for "set time from GPS" for years, not knowing I could have had it all along.

I agree the D800 isn't an upgraded D700. What I wanted was a D4-in-a-smaller-body (or mini-D3s, making it a D700s). I would likely buy another D700 if mine died today.
