Just purchased SanDisk 8GB 60MB/s Compact Flash Extreme 400x UDMA memory cards for my just purchased D700.Decided to check with Nikon support on line and they said I could only use Type I cards. Is this a Type I card?

The only physical difference between the two types is that Type I devices are 3.3 mm thick while Type II devices are 5 mm thick.<37>
The vast majority of all Type II devices are Microdrives and other miniature hard drives.

Type I is what you want for your camera. This one should be fine.
