"Aperture Mode Locked UP"

In either Manual or Aperture Mode, with the aperture setting reading F8, the top lcd panel displays a small icon above the F. This tiny icon is of the letter L (Locked?). I cannot change the value of the aperture setting with any of three different G lenses mounted.

In the A mode the f-stop display remains at F8 as I rotate the subcommand dial.

In the M mode the f-stop remains displayed at F8 with the L-icon as I vary the shutter speed from 1/250 to 30".

In the S Mode, lo is displayed where the f-stop is normally displayed.
This lo does not change as I vary the S setting from 1/250 to 30".

This L icon is not listed in the Index of the manual and I cannot find it in the body of the manual. I cannot find the symptom in the Trouble Shooting or Error Messages sections.

Help! I've got a brand new 105mm G macro lens and the blossoms are starting to bloom outside!

In P mode it does vary the Speed, ISO and f-stop for a good EV under varying conditions (though not to my liking).

Well, Idiot! Go to Custom Settings, f8 and turn off Aperture Lock!
