Thom Hogan wrote that Nikon ended up with some extra parts that could not be delivered while the factory was being rebuilt so some will be made to use up the parts. Since Nikon was always production line constrained in the past in Japan, it seems like a questionable decision when that production line could be used to get caught up on backorder demand for a more expensive, more in demand product. It would not matter if they had lots of idle production facility but if more D700 production is done, D800s will be delayed in filling current orders. Stores will not be happy when easy sales go unfilled while cameras that might sit on the shelf a while are being shipped. By all accounts, doing another run of D700s until parts run out will be a temporary situation. A local chain store here has one on the shelf in every store but no takers when their customers know the D800 will be out soon. Stan St Petersburg Russia
