"D700 vs D800 Memory Cards"

Annapolis, US

I just received a Lexar 1000x 64gb UDMA CF card that I thought would be great for my D800 when it arrives. I put it in my D700 and formatted it, but it doesn't seem to work. The display show "0" for shots available.

Question:

a) is this card not compatible with a D700?
b) is it compatible with a D800?

or, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

OK, I think I have answered my own question. The UDMA 7 cards are not supported by the D700 but are supported by the D800.

Can someone confirm that that is correct?

To add to my own conversation with myself, it appears that my current card reader or computer will not read these UDMA 7 cards and I will have to purchase a card reader that is compatible.

Can others confirm this?

We should make a list of compatibility issues when going from the D700 to D800.

Did you find a way to use that card on the D700? I have D700 and just purchased one of the cards (due to good price) then saw your post..... hoping you have a good answer

Hi

Im confused about this too. I do remember that the D800 takes a much higher tech card than will work in the D700. In fact I understand that it wont work with the lower cards at all.

However the Nikon manual says the D700 will only use up to 8gb cards and the guy at the camera store loaded mine wth a 16 gb card that seems to work fine.

Just bought my camera three weeks ago and the card he loaded was a 16gb Delkin UDMA 6,read 75mbs,write 40mbs.

It may be that when the D700 manual was printed, the maximum card size was 8gb. I have been using 16gb cards in my D700 without any issues.

Hi All.

An update for the D700 firmware was released a while ago to allow it to take up to a 64GB memory cards.
Prior to that update the cards it used were limited.
