Hello!

I just joined nikonians.org and would like to seek some help from you. I just recently bought a D700 body (and am very happy with...) and used my old manual AI lenses. Now I got a new AF-S G ED lense and can't get the autofocus working. I obviously switched to off the "manual focus" on the bottom and adjusted the settings but it still does not work.

Any ideas where to look at?

What settings did you adjust on the D700? Make sure the M, S, C switch is actually on S or C and not in between a setting. I leave mine on C all the time even when using Ai lenses. The camera knows when an Ai lens is attached.

Which lens? Is there a switch on the lens that is manual focus only? Be sure to check the lens.

Is your D700 set up to autofocus using the shutter button or AF-On button? Offhand that is the first thing I would look at (though at this moment I'm not certain exactly which setting that is).

Hi Garrett,

yes I put it in "S" mode and attached the 24mm 1/1.4G ED lense but still does not work. The settings are both, AF-On button and also shutter button to activate the autofocus.

If it's not the switch on the lens, then maybe one of the contacts is sticking. I can't think of anything else.
