"Easy Exposure and flash question"

GB

Hi folks. Sorry if this is a bit dim but I have set my D700 so that I can use the "easy exposure compensation" feature and don't need to hold down the +/- button. However, if I either pop up the built-in flash or attach a speedlight then try to use exposure compensation it all goes crazy and the indicator goes all over the place.

I am able to get it back to normal by pressing the +/- button when rotating the command dial. Is this normal?

Thanks
