"MB-D10 attachment wheel hits fingers?"

When holding the MB-D10 vertically, do you find the attachment wheel hits your finger? It does with the D200; I'm wondering if Nikon has moved the positioning at all on the newer grip. Also on the D200/grip: when held in horizontal format, there is a ridge between the body and grip that doesn't feel smooth. But this isn't as annoying as the vertical grip attachment wheel.

An undeniable paradox: To think that there is any such thing as an absolute rule is at worst naïve, and at best, shortsighted. There is no such thing as an always-true, all context- or situation-salient, absolute rule that always holds true…including this one!

It does not for me. But I have pretty big hands. but it does not hit my 14 year old sons either. It is as close to perfect for me as it could be

The wheel on the D700/MB-D10 and the D200/MB-D200 falls in exactly the same place. When holding the cameras in vertical position my little finger rests on the wheel. In horizontal position I don't feel the ridge you describe. It feels smooth to me.

That is it exactly.

I think it must be a personal "hold" issue. I have never notices this with either my D300S or my D700. In fact had you not mentioned it, I would have never thought of such a condition.

Have to agree with the majority, I have D200 & D700 and never noticed this with either.

If you hold the camera in the vertical position like this and use the release on the grip, unless you have tiny hands and fingers, your finger will rest on the wheel. Give it a try.

I resemble that remark.

Also, since I focus with the AF-ON buttion it appears that I grip my MB-D10 a bit higher than you do as shown in your photo (since my thumb has to contact the AF-On button). When gripped so that I can focus I am unable to reach the wheel with any of my fingers.

I kind of prefer having my fingers somewhat spread out rather than all cramped together.

Also, I can reposition my grip so it's shallower. But that doesn't seem like a good idea.

I've always had a thing for good ergonomics. These vertical grips don't seem to be. Why does the wheel have to be so big? On the N90s grip for example, it was much smaller and not an issue.

I have weird hands. Normal size palm, but short stubby fingers. I suspect my hands are close in size to those of the MB-D10's Nikon designer, so it fits me fine

I really haven't noticed if I hit the wheel or not, I always have my Kirk L-bracket installed on my camera.

Well, judging by the pics, it looks like this may be resolved finally on the new D800/MB-D12. The attachement wheel looks slimmer.
