"IS THE D700 WORTH THE EXTRA $$$, OR WILL NAS TAKE OVER?" Wed 02-Jul-08 05:57 AM by W6PJJ

I was waiting to see what all the chatter was about. The preview photos and spec sheets on the Internet were quite accurate. I now know that I should have waited but the NAS got out of control about six months ago and I invested in a D300. Deep down I am really interested in a product with a sensor in the 20MP range . I have a hunch Nikon will do it, but when? Ah the itch is great but I believe I will wait until the dust settles. It will be interesting to see what the feedback is like after this product has been in the field for six months or more.

If the D3 has over 20 mega pixels, wouldn't it effectively be back down to the D300 level noise wise? Unless of course Nikon has improved the FX sensor even further by increasing the number of pixels without sacrifising noise levels?

This new announcement affects my involvement with the d300 as well. Although happy with my Fuji S3, it is getting further behind the technology that is coming from Nikon. Soon I would expect the d300 to come down under $1,500 but that will only counter the new price on the 70-200 whenever that comes out. NAS will make me buy both.
