Can't address the Sandisk directly but I have been using 233x RiData 16GB cards available from frys.com for $60 and I am exceptionally happy with the price/performance. While not quite the same speed specs I doubt if I would ever notice the difference and they are a fraction of the price of the Sandisk.

Write speed 12 MB/S. That's not very fast if you bracket for HDR or shoot @ max FPS.

Is this a trick question? I don't think that such a card exists!

There is a Sandisk Extreme IV 8GB, and an Extreme III 16GB.

If it did exist I'm sure it would work!

OK thanks - it is a new one!

The 8GB cards work well so I would expect the 16GB ones to be just as good.

I just picked up 3 4gb Extreme IV for $25 net after rebates. $300 for that 16gb card seems like a huge premium to play when you can get basically the same thing for 1/3 the price.

The 16Gb Sandisk IV lives in my D700 permanently. It is fine, great for time lapse too.

Don't have the sandisk mainly because they cost to must. But I do have a Transcend 16GB 133x which works well. You can get it from amazon.com

I would not say "work extremely well" about the Transcend 133X: from your link it writes @ 9.607MB/sec while the max speed of the D700 is 35MB/sec. It will show on long bursts with the FPS slowing down as the buffer fills up.

It does "work extremely well" for the low cost. I used it at a air show and had no problems.

What is your max burst before it stalls & how long do you have to wait for the buffer to empty before you can shoot again?

I really could not say. I'm taking pictures and don't count/time how long it takes. I'm sure the big name cards are faster, but I don't have a problem with the speed of the card. I also have a Lexar 8GB 300x card and I really can't tell any difference in speed of the two cards.

See D700 Performance, Buffer clearing time & note.

It really depends on what & how you shoot. It's not the kind of accessory where I would save some $. Kind of putting recap tires on a Ferrari. If you have it already, ok, but if you are buying new...

Like I said it's fine for me. You buy what you need. I don't do to much burst shots with my D700 anyway. mostly wide-angle stuff, landscapes and you don't need speed for that.

I will not post the photos here but a bank robber died 15 meters in front of me & the photos were the first images on national TV & newspapers.

I am not an ambulance chaser or into PJ, my office happened to be 25 meters from the bank.

I've started using the Lexar 300 and something UDMA cards and they scream on the D700 compared to the old 133x WA's.

I bought an inexpensive $50 16 GIG Compact Flash card. It works fine. I'm not going to split any hairs or lose any sleep about maximum recording rates that are faster than an eye blink--literally.

The eye blinking is quickly completed in 1/3 seconds. Not that fast. Slow-motion here.

Anyway, they won't work for shooting D-Movies with the D800 next year.

A fast card also means faster photo browsing on the LCD. Make the test with a SanDisk Extreme III or up and a generic CF card. It takes a long time to go forward/backward on the pictures you've taken with a cheap card. So not only shooting speed is affected by low grade cards.

Also, you won't want to risk loosing pictures on the field with a lower quality card!

Multiple 4GB cards are cheaper than a single 16GB one, and it's better to lose a 4GB card than a 16GB one

But if you have three 4 gb cards in your pocket instead of one 16 gb in the camera, you have more chance of loosing one.
