"D700 Delivery date?"

US

...it figures. Just got set to pull the trigger on a D300. I have an event to do July 29.

What to do? I see Adorama is taking orders but, I see no delivery times. This has me going crazy. Anyone have a clue about possible delivery dates? I know with Nikon this is difficult but, man, I have GOT to know!

You know?

Don't know the delivery date but if I was in your shoes, I would see about renting a D300 to cover your event and if you can rent one.... then place an order for D700.

That way your event is covered and you get to satisfy our NAS!!!!!

My local camera store says that their first shipment is scheduled by Nikon to be shipped to them on July 25th. I am hoping to get mine early the following week to shoot a concert on August 1.

Amazon shows a release date of September 5th on their preorder page.

Amazon now shows the following:

Note on Availability: This item may arrive in the market as early as August 2008, but is in high demand and supplies from the manufacturer are limited. Its availability fluctuates, and if the item is not currently in stock, we cannot guarantee that we will receive additional quantities in a timely manner. Orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

I ordered from them on July 14, so, who knows?

Look into renting a D300 or maybe a D3 (if you have the lenses for it). It'd certainly be cheaper than buying a camera that you don't seem to really want...

Oh, it's not that I don't want it. Indeed, I love the D300 and have since decided to get it. I'll anticipate next late July another update and be ready to pounce then.

That'll give me a year to save up get the 14-24 and 24-70 for the D800 too!

Yeah, I gotta admit buying the D700 has pushed back my 24-70 f/2.8 purchase a bit... but then, maybe Nikon will (in the meantime) finally come through with some f/4 zooms?

Just get the D300 now and when the D700 comes out just pick that one up. I only say this so it will make me feel better, that is since I bought the D300 two weeks ago.

Actually I think there are good things about both bodies and if I can figure out how I may carry both the D300 and D700, course with no glass if I get the D700 but oh well. So when is the D4 coming out?

Hey.

I pre-ordered mine from Amazon (July 2nd) and called them right after to check the delivery dates. They told me that it will ship (for sure) on Sep. 5th.

Amazon is a big store, so I don't expect others to ship much sooner than that.

Walmart is "big" also, but they will not have the D700 before B&H, BergerBros or Roberts. I am very confident that you will see orders shipping from these "pro" camera shops long before Amazon.

I ordered my Pentax K20D (now sold but no fault on the part of the camera) from Amazon and they showed a delivery date well past everyone else.

B&H got it in, I cancelled my order with Amazon, paid $50 for overnight shipping and two days later, Amazon had it in stock. As a prime member, next day shipping is $3.99 so that hurt a little.

I do not know why they're conservative on their delivery estimates but they are HUGE and I expect them, worst case scenario, to have my D700 within a few days of the major camera vendors. If not, I'll pony up for the extra postage again, assuming I can find one somewhere.

Until then, I am "limping by" with my D300! FX/DX...here I come!

Phil

I got an email from Ritz Camera today saying my new D700 is being shipping to their warehouse from Nikon. So I'm thinking the July 25th date will be accurate.

Nikon has claimed they will ship the D700 bodies out to dealers beginning on the 25th of July (Friday) of next week. I am certainly hoping this sticks. My dealer said his rep called them to confirm last Thursday they were on track to stick to that date, and will be sending them out to them 2nd day air. So if all goes well I'll have mine Tuesday afternoon the 29th of July......I hope....

I just got a call from the store where I placed my order for the D700. They confirmed they will get the cameras in on the 25th, and that I can pick mine up on the 26th (I live in Tokyo).

Don't know what that means for the rest of the world but at least these are signs that things are going to get out according to schedule.

Hi,

My local dealer (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) has confirmed the July 25th date as well. It looks like us Canadians may not have to wait an extra week or two as sometimes happens.

Enjoy!

In the UK the online site - jessops.co.uk are advertising the D700 as being available in 6 days so that makes it the same as you have already mentioned above e.g. the 25th July. They are a very reliable company here.
