"D700 Raw Images"

US

Cannot edit my raw images on NX2 or Apple Aperture. Adobe CS3 does not even recognize the image format. I can display the images using View NX, but cannot load them to perform any editing. Does any one have any ideas as to what the problem may be? Thanks.

NX2 definitely does edit these images. You might try re-installing it. It is a problem specific to your computer and set up. I would just try "re-doing" things until you find the problem. I assume you have enough memory (I would recommend at least 3gigs).

As for CS3 you will need to update your ACR (Camera Raw Plugin).
Apple as far as I know has not updated their Camera Raw plugin yet, but there is a workaround.

Adobe ACR 4.5 Mac:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3943

Adobe ACR 4.5 PC:

Aperture workaround:

As mentioned earlier NX2 should work just fine.

Hi Allison,
Thank you for your tip on the Aperture workaround. It made my day.
I bought my D700 yesterday and started panicking when Aperture would not recognize my RAW shots.
David Schloss' tutorial in Aperture Users Network forum has worked perfectly for me for converting my DSC files to DNG.
(Macbook Pro + Mac OS x 10.5 + Aperture 2.1.1)
Meanwhile, lets hope Apple will do something about it as quickly as possible...
Hopefully we will hear about it soon on this forum.
Best regards and a million thanks

i dont know how many of you use Capture One for your Raw processing but I called and found out they will be releasing a beta version with support for the D700 soon (crosses fingers and hopes).

They said they were hopeful to have the full scale version released with support for the D700 in mid to late Fall. Not as soon as I would have hoped but since this is my RAW software of choice I'll have to go with it.

Hi,

I did not know about Capture One until you posted your question (unanswered so far).

Would you please tell me what is the difference (apart from price) between using Capture One, Photoshop CS3, Aperture, Nikon Software and/or any other existing Raw Software?

After converting my RAW files from NEF to DNG using the Adobe workaround, I noticed that they were reduced by more than 50% of their original size (24.4 MB down to 11.5 MB). Is there any logical explanation to this?

Thanks for any input with any links to comprehend this issue.

FreddyNoel
