Ill be shooting the Monster Truck series event this weekend indoors at Chase Ballpark here in Phx, AZ. I'll be using my battery pack for the first time. I'll be using Ultimate Lithium batteries, using my 70-200 VR II, and no flash, shooting a 8fps. The ballpark I'm told will be lit up crazy bright so I don't think there is need for VR? What kind of life can I expect for my batteries?

I shot a AZ cardinal game 6 weeks ago and used a af-s 80-200mm lens and my D700 camera. I didn't need the grip and I shot over 450 images on the internal battery. I was using the winder all the time. I would take 8 to 10 image bursts. I hope that this helps.

The Manual lists between 700 and 1000 images for AA's though I am sure that is for standard Alkaline batteries. Rechargeable NiMh batteries get between 2000 and 3000 images per charge. My best guess would be the Lithiums fall somewhere between. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

I would use VR for sure, no reason not to. You should get 500+ images from your camera battery, assuming you are not wasting a lot of power checking your images. Since you have the battery pack, why not just keep it in your pocket for emergency use? Your arms will appreciate the lack of extra weight.
