"D700 AND EPSON P-5000 PHOTO VIEWER"
Mon 04-Aug-08 06:58 PM by wilfig

ROSS, US

IS THERE A WAY TO OPEN THE NEW RAW FILE TYPES FROM THE D700 ON THE EPSON P-5000 PHOTO VIEWER? OR IS THERE A PATCH AVAILABLE FROM EPSON TO ALLOW ONE TO DO THIS?
I HEAR EPSON IS COMING OUT WITH A P-6000 AND P-7000 PHOTO VIEWER. I WONDER IF THEY WILL SUPPORT THE NEW RAW FILES FROM THE D700?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INFO. ON THIS.

BILL

A quick search at the Epson website found this list of supported cameras. The D3 and D300 have been supported since the February 2008 firmware update , but the D700 is not yet listed. I assume a further firmware update will be made available in due course.

By the way, using ALL UPPER CASE is difficult to read, and in web forums is considered to be the equivalent of "shouting"

Bill,
I have transferred some D700 files from my D700 into my Epson P4000 unit (older than yours) and it reads the NEF's fine, shows them on the Epson screen fine, in great resolution. Perhaps yours does the same and you assumed that it would not have D700 capability; I believe that it is a NEF capability that is necessary here, and not specific camera capabilities, and the Epson P-xxxx units have ability to read Nikon Electronic Format, NEFs. (I have not updated the firmware on my Epson P4000 as there is no update since 2006).

I have just backed up a few NEF images from my D700 to my EPSON P-5000 without any problems. No firmware update needed. I can zoom in and view them just as I am able to do with my D200 NEF images.

What is the source for the rumored impending release of P6000 and 7000?
