"Did the D700 make my Capture NX 1.2 or 1.3 obsolete?"

Did the D700 make my Capture NX 1.3 obsolete? Darn, I'm really on the fence about this camera and it looks like I have to spend even more money if I shoot NEF's. Is this so? I don't PP much and prefer NX when I do because it's so easy to use.

Unfortunately yes. But you can work around this with ExifTool or Bill Claff's D700Hack:

I just upgraded to NX2. I find it much easier to use than NX and I think you will too. Why not try to 60 day trial version as see for yourself. Jason Odell's NX2 ebook is very useful too.

Thanks for the tips. Don't yet own the D700 but when I do I'll just get NX2. I think for the price or the D700 it should be included. How much ins NX2 btw?

The down load 60 trail is free from Nikon web site. You can buy the license from the Nikon store:

That is a link to the upgrade, if you already have NX1. If not the full license cost is something like $179 USD.

BTW - Nikon explitcitly says that NX2 works on Vista 32-bit, but does not mention Vista 64-bit. I am using it on 64-bit with no problems whatsoever.

Also, the update for NX2 from the Nikon site is required to view NX2 NEFs if you originally downloaded NX2 earlier than the release of the D700 (at least that was the case for me). This fact is not mentioned by Nikon in the "what's new/fixed".
