Just curious if anyone knows how many 12 (or 14) bit RAW files you can shoot with a D700 before it fills the buffer and slows shooting? I believe the D300 shoots around 17 twelve bit files before it fills the buffer. At 8 fps with a grip, that's only two seconds of shooting. My kid does half pipe ski competitions in the winter and I fill the buffer on the first couple of hits. Once that happens, I have to take my chances on tricks on the rest of the run as it clears some space in the buffer. I have 300x CF cards.

buffer capacity for various file formats. For 12 bit RAW lossless compressed,capacity is 23 shots. For 14 bit, it is 20 shots. Have a look at that table, it shows you all what you need to know.

I posted my reply about a week ago and only now I just realised that it does not make any sense. Half of the text I typed is missing.

The table I am referring to is on page 423 of the D700 manual. It lists the buffer capacity for different image quality settings.
