"D700 = Instant Classic"

Lopez Island, US

I used an F3 from 1987 to 2005 (and still have it) alongside a couple of rangefinders. It was a classic of the film age. Maybe I'm in a honeymoon period, but I think that the D700 will become a classic of the digital age. I have used a D3 since January, and before that a D2Xs and Canon 5D. The D3 is the best SLR I have ever owned in some respects, but is best suited to press pools and other hard service where durability trumps size and weight. More to the point, here is my take on the D700:

>> Fantastic sensor and rich feature set in a small package, with very few compromises on usability. Switching from the D3 is almost seamless.
>> Wireless flash control built into the camera. Thank you, Nikon. I sorely missed it in the D3.
>> Modular design with the battery grip and en-el4 battery transforming the camera into a big action camera on demand.
>> Grid lines in the viewfinder. This speeds up framing. An underrated feature IMHO.

I hope the market rewards Nikon for puttng this camera out.

I agree with you. I've had the D70, D80, D200, D300 and film 8008 and a Nikormat. I shoot thousands of photos a year for work.

The D700 is fantastic. It is my main working body now with my 300 as backup. Tired of reading nit picky posts from peple who take photos of streetlights and signs. Go out and really work your camera and you will see how good it is.

Well that what a lot of FX fans/users will say, so far people are showing pics that probably part of the marketing for 35mm digicams. I hope you are right not that I am likely to give up the DX fornmat, half my lenses would be less than useful.

Good luck

Mike
