"Furewoeks Pictures"

Upton, US

I bought the D700 a few months back and will be taking pictures of fireworks over the next few days. I have 24 -70 and 70 - 200 Nikon 2.8 lenses. Any suggestions as to speed and aperture? My initial thoughts are to shoot at F11, for 4 or 5 secs using the 24 - 70 mm lens. Would appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks.

Rich

Here you go -- http://www.nikonians.org/html/resources/guides/fireworks/fireworks1.html

Timing is everything, basically, as is wind speed. There's nothing you can do if the wind isn't fast enough in clearing smoke (which is especially bad during the finale when several fireworks are going off at the same time).

Good luck!

I was reading some where else on the same subject. What it said to do was open the shutter for 6 seconds or so but use a black piece of paper to cover the lens in-between bursts. That way you only get the shell trail and explosion.

Hopefully that makes sense and helps.

This is a tip I'd never heard. Sounds like a really good idea.
