I was curious too know if their was a way to tell if your D700 is a remanufactured model by checking the serial number.

Just register it on nikonusa and email their support. I sent a question about mine being a USA model (w/ serial #) around 12:30am (eastern US time) and a rep replied in about 20 minutes.

The camera body's serial number is stamped on to the case at time of maufacture. There may also be a shutter serial number, the serial number in the MakerNote. But you will not know if the shutter has been replaced.
