"Niagara Falls from the American Side"

US

I wasn't sure how this would come out but the clouds suggested I give it a try. It was shot from the observation deck. I shot a number of images from ground level on the Canadian side, but so far, none of them have catch the drama of Niagara.

I'm posting both faux color and B&W. While I tend to favor B&W over faux color, I think I'm partial to the color version for this set.

Hi Bill,

Its a little unusual for me to not prefer the color, but I love the contrast, dynamic range and movement in the B&W. I hope you don't mind, but i might try to selectively tone down the highlights a little going over the falls in silver efex.

Great image

Paul,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I can take a look at doing that in LR, SEFX, or possibly revisiting the raw with highlight protection and reduced exposure as an overlay layer in PS. The sun was shining brightly on the mist directly and there may not be a lot of detail to bring out. I do like the idea and will see what I can do.

A revision of the B&W per Paul's recommendation. I made the adjustments in LR. I brushed in some highlight reduction and adjusted the overall white and black points.

Bill,

I think it is better. I also tried and and took image into Viveza and added some structure, decreased brightness, and incresed shadows with control point. I like yours.

The color IR version of this is amazing! The B&W is also good but the colors are beautiful in this shot. Well done!
