Photoshop CS6 has a filter named Scott5 under HDR Toning. I find that it sometimes gives me an effect that I like but sometimes, it just fails. I find that if there are white/light tones in the picture, those areas turn grey and appear odd. Am I doing something wrong?

Sometimes the effect is too strong. At such times I copy the Scott5 image on to the original image and then turn down the Opacity till I like the picture. Sometimes I need to use the Mask to paint back some details that I like in the original (non Scott5 filter image).

My main concern right now is to know how to use this filter when the original image has white/light tones?

Thanks in advance.

Rohinton
