"ACR 2.3 - White Balance"

What's the temperature of daylight?

I shot with my CP5400 setting WB to daylight (direct sunlight) and when I open the raw file in ACR it shows a temperature of 4800. I was expecting at least 5500. I emailed Nikon imaging support to ask for the Kelvin equivalents of CP5400 white balance settings but they just directed me to their corporate offices.

That's what is usually best for my D70... 4800/5000!
I'm not sure that in ACR those are "authentic" values (scientific light measures) but more of the "direct sunlight, shadows, overcast sky, etc." sort, clad in a continuous numerical value !

It works though...

Thanks Jacques. Today I shot with Auto WB and noticed that I got a higher temp reading from ACR than I do with WB manually set to daylight, 4950 auto vs 4800 manual. I found that if I fine tune the daylight WB it will go from 4050 (+3 setting) to 5750 (-3 setting). I would have expected Nikon's scale to set higher temps with + settings but at least I now have more control. You may be right that Adobe is reading the WB on a somewhat arbitrary scale, not necessarily accurate Kelvin temperatures. I'll try Nikon again to see if they'll reveal the actual temperatures corresponding to the WB settings. Cheers.
