Exactly, you can do all the filter effect on selected channels in PS5 &6. May be the KPT has some extra filters.
Alternatively, my understanding is KPT filter can be plugged in into other softwares such as paintshop, may be such channel surf is useful for those other software but for you, it is a meaningless

Or maybe the channel surf works for your TV remote control
PS6 has "extract" function, really wonder how it compare with knockout. I used to use extensis maskpro, it works well on certain images but not on many others.

"The KPT Channel Surfing filter splits an image into RGB and HLS color channels, and lets you apply an effect to one or all of the channels." (The effects include, blur, contrast, sharpen, and value shift. You also have control over opacity and a big set of blend modes.)
My question is this, can't you already do this in Photoshop? Can't you, for instance, select the blue channel after a scan and sharpen just the blue channel? Does this KPT filter just refine the process and give you more options? Otherwise I don't see the big deal.
