"Post processing advice sought for newspaper submission"

New York, US

I'm getting a chance to publish a photo with a writers store in a national paper.

I've written their photo department with questions about how to submit the file but I haven't heard back and the story submission deadline approaches.

The newspaper editor requested a hi-res JPEG.

I followed-up with these questions:

(1) Should the color space be sRGB ?

(2) Should the image be pre-sharpened and if so to target what kind of
output press/printer ?

(3) What would be the appropriate profile for soft-proofing?

Should I even be worried about these details for a newspaper photo submission? I don't know if they are running it black-and-white or color either.

Any pointers on the best post for a newspaper photo?

Many Thanks,
Rich

Rich:

I'm a staff photographer for a local newspaper and they require that all images be submitted in an image size that is suitable for printing a 5X7 which is 1600X1200. I have a D2Xs and I use Color Space-Adobe RGB and submit all images in color. When the edition hits the newsstands, some images are in color others are in black and white.

My point is this-just submit your images in 5X7 (1600X1200) JPEG Fine and not concern yourself with those other details because the paper will let you know if what you submitted worked on not, and if not, then they should tell you what will work for them.

Hope this helps,

Marty
