"Cap 3.5 won't accept jpgs that have been modified in PS"

Title says it... I converted a NEF to jpg. Moved it to PS7 to make a local curves correction. When I tried opening it again in Cap. 3.5 I was presented with a declaration that the format was not supported.

What do you think happened.. It was a jpg going out and still a jpg when i tried coming back.

Incidentally, I prefer making corrections with Capture's curves rather than PS7. But local (lassod corrections) can't be made. That's the reason for this whole thing.

Cheers,
Stephen

I believe this is a bug with Photoshop 7. I have seen it floating around that version seven adds several tags to JPEG files that are non-standard, and some applications and devices cannot read them correctly, or at all. There was also a bug that causes colour shifting in the highlights with JPEG, but that was fixed with 7.0.1. I am not sure if that patch fixed the other problem, but if you have the time to download it, you might want to give that a try.

I saw this on a page about setting up your prints for the Fuji Frontier. It recommended against using JPEG files from PS7 for this reason.

If the patch doesn't fix it, you might want to try saving the files as TIFF. Yes, they'll take more space, but saving and re-saving your JPEG files like that is something I would never do in the first place. Each time you open it and resave it, you lose a *lot* of data, even at maximum quality settings. If you are taking the time to do masked colour correction, the file is probably worth a bit more than a recycled JPEG.
