"Follow-on to A Pixelated Question topic"

Salt Spring Island, CA

So how does the Bayer Array fit onto the photosite array?

Is a 2-by-2 square grouping of photosites used to detect R-G-G-B, one colour on each photosite?

IE a 12MP sensor would have 3 million red photosites as follows:

R G R G R G . . .
G B G B G B . . .
R G R G R G . . .
. . . . . .
. . . . . .

There are a number of different array configurations used by manufactures, but in generalwith a Bayer Array half the sensel's are green, 1/4 red and 1/4 blue.
