The moral of the story:
When changing lenses put the lens in your bag and not a ledge.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

I loved the comment about using a polarizing filter in that situation.
From the rocking of the cradle to the rolling of the hearse, the going up was worth the coming down

Too funny! Wonder if insurance covered the loss/damage of the lens?

I once was driving down an interstate behind a flatbed truck carrying 2 gazebos. Suddenly the roof on one of them flew off and landed in front of me. Fortunately, I was able to stop before hitting it (as was the truck behind me). That would have been an interesting explanation, too: "I ran into the roof of a gazebo". I'm sure they would have asked for the results of the breathalyser test.

Several years ago my wife and I were heading home from a cycling trip. Our bikes were on our roof rack on the car. I was sleeping when my wife's screaming jarred me awake. One of the clamps of the rack had come loose and the entire rack flew off the car. I turned just in time to see it complete a complete revolution and slam onto the pavement. We were very lucky nobody was behind us. Had to disassemble everything and fit things into the
Explaining that to our insurance agent was rather time consuming.
