Got a nice condition Soligor 800mm f8 baseball bat on the way...!ha!

Had to dust off the tripod...

I KNOW I'm not a long lens/tripod person...

Oh - I hope to take it to Crater Lake...this month.

Paid $134.00
Can use it with my D5100... = 1200mm f8 at old conversion

For about a year...I been scoping out this lens ...same...by different makers.

KEH was the seller.

Miss shotting with my D5100...been into old cameras of late.

I will keep you informed...should be here byTues. or Wed. of next.

Happy day.!

Oh - and I bought a new Vanguard QR ball head for my (new two years ago)GREAT vanguard legs.

Hi Larry,

I don't think I've every seen a photo taken with this lens. I'm looking forward to it. The D5100 should show everything the lens is capable of.

Len

I'll put some pics...problem is D5100 has no MLU,I'll use self timer and remote...but - still has mirror "pop!"

Good thing with this lens is ; I can use it for 6 or 12 months and resell for a little more than purchase price.

-nice to hear from you -hope you are doing well and shooting and purchasing!!

Phil turned me on to 'Caffinated Photographers',through facebook(?);so I'd like to yurn you on to it;
you can post a shot or two a day.

ENJOY
Larry

Hi Larry,
I sincerely wish you good luck with an 800mm lens on a DX body supported by your present tripod but, truthfully, I think you're setting yourself up for a BIG disappointment!

While the tripod may be very high quality, it doesn't appear even close to being sufficiently stable for a (very) long lens and ESPECIALLY with a DX body!

Like others, I am very keen to see some results...

Pete

Hi guys - sorry I dropped the ball ... I have done test shots in the yard....

first one is best of the first day,second is best from the second day;

I'm not sure with you guys - but I think the second one is pretty good ...for a camera that doesn't have MLU.
And
I did use 'FOCUS ZOOM' on the second one.

So...what do you think?

Larry
Add;
My tripod is kinda light,and head just about bearly handles the lens...so here's a pic of shoot set-up.;

Oh - Canon monopod under camera,1000 ISO,1000th,f16,quick remote.

Add #2 ; And I should say ... I'm not a tripod/long lens person...I like and have wanted this lens for a year ... but
I have it on ebay right now -I can't understand me either!
I thought I'd double my money...but not so ... $130.00 is about the going rate.
But - it's exciting for me to photograph it and post it on ebay.
It's OK if it sells,and wonderful if it doesn't .!

Add 2 ; Oh, the jeep shot is across the river and across the field.
So,shot one was before I learned how to focus...!

Going to Crater Lake tomorrow.!

So I set myself up...

Made a cap for shade...keeping whole lens together...shooting close to car only.(For quick ease)

Now my tripod and monopod are both on the light side for this...so I'm bringing a 5 lb bag of rice(to go atop camera/lens base).

If it's too windy...my equipment is shy ...oh-well

I'll try.

I'm also bringing a cut down version of my AF Nikon 5100 system,with just 5 lenses - hopefully do some panos
...and I'm bringing my Bronica SQ-a with 40mm(only one roll)

Crater lake was very smokey-early,then windy latter...didn't even clear up much.
So didn't get to use the lens.So-it just came along for the trip.

And now - I just shipped the lens yesterday(I had it on ebay).
It sold for almot twise what I paid for it.!
Loved owning it;but;

I'm just not a tripod or long-lens person.

And with my recent sales ; I can pay off all my debt and my car insureance ; how many people can say that?-or is it;

thank God I can do that.!(I'm trying to pay for my 'habbit'.'buying and selling cameras...I owe about $1000.00 on credit card...I have about $1300.00 on my Paypal.
So - I'm REAL close...to debt free.(...ground zero)
