This NASA image of earth is a composite taken by the latest in satellite technology. The image is in the public domain and you can download a 16MB JPEG suitable for personal use.

Can't help but notice the lack of green even in the temperate zone of North America. Must be because this was taken in January.

I think you are right about the time of year - it is in the winter. There is snow on the ground northeast of the Grand Canyon.

I'm a bit amazed at the resolution. 8000x8000 pixels will do that. Now do I really want to print a copy?

I was on Google Earth the other day to get the coordinates to my parking spot, for comparison purposes with my GPS. I was shocked, not only that my Wrangler was in the photo, but you could see a very nice image of my Wrangler.

I'd like to see the camera systems that take these photos. Heck, I cannot get a shot of an eagle across a small lake; but they can get a shot of my Jeep from who knows how high up (Howard probably knows).
