"Received my HP B9180 Prints"
Fri 18-Jan-08 02:23 AM by ronsailcat

Pioneer, US

Received in Pioneer CA USA today 3PM PST 17Jan. Fed Exed from HP in Germany on 15 Jan.
Picked Fine Art Media and sent one Color (which I had never printed before) and one I used PSCS3/Nik Colorefex Pro 3.0 to change to Black and White. Print quality is excellent. Only thing I did wrong was misunderstanding the requirement that I had to upsize the files/pix dimensions before sending. So I received two 8x10 prints on 13x19 paper.

When did you order it? I put my order in the day the notice first appeared and haven't got mine yet.

I think I uploaded the pix around 21 Dec 2007 but I am not sure as I only kept the NEF files, not the uploaded ones, hence no exif data.

Did nearly the same only one was about 4x6 the other about 6x9. Very high quality but very, very disappointed in size. I had tried a couple with the larger files but they never would upload properly/completely.

I've uploaded similar files to ezprints and indicated the size print needed and never had a problem. I did the same here and I was obviously mistaken. Wish I could do it again...

Got my print Saturday. I ordered it the first day the offer was posted (forget the actual date). I also had a size problem -- got an 11x14 print on 13x19 paper.

I received mine today via FedEx. I sent them in before Xmas.

Both were color from the recent Anpat 7 trip to Yellowstone. I sent them in before we knew to go 300dpi and mine went in as 220. I don't recall the paper selection but the one's I received are somewhat like canvas / cloth.

Both prints are very nice but basically of similar quality than what I can achieve through my Epson 2200. Also, for some reason, one of the two printed only as 7 x 10 portrait when it should have been 13x19 with a border. A little disappointing.

I did a little research on the original file I sent in and it appears to me that when I set the resolution to 220, I neglected to check off and it changed the actual print size. My Fault, Not HP's.

Thanks to those that put this test together!!

I was just informed that mine came this morning.
Unfortunately I won't see it until Sunday though.

My 13X19 print arrived today, a very nice print on the canvas media. If I had to do it again (note to self, upgrade Nikonians membership), I might choose one of the other paper selections as the shot I sent in has too much detail (IMHO) for the canvas treatment.

I want to express my appreciation to HP Germany (Did lots of business with Boeblingen selling scanner OCR SW when I lived in The Netherlands), and to the Nikonians crew for arranging the program and doing the upload support. THANKS guys/gals!

I have one last comment about HP printer support that's a bit off topic here, but as I have your ears... I own an HP 8750 and it was running fine under Windows XP. -- I recently (2 weeks ago) built a new PC and installed Visa on it. My HP 8750 no longer works well enough under Vista to print ANY photo quality prints because of the poor Vista driver support (dated 3/07), or lack of on-line guidance, I've received from HP USA. It's now just a printer for email and documents.

I'm in the market for a new photo printer, and although the 9180, or its new personal successor, would have been in the running for me, I'm likely to be 'jumping ship'. The result for HP will be a total loss of HP paper and ink revenue from me.

Tim

Tim,

Just so you know I am running Vista Home Premium and the B9180 is running without a hitch. I downloaded the latest Vista drivers from the HP site.

Thanks, Ernesto.

I'm happy to see that HP seems to have done Vista correctly for the B9180. Their support for the 8750 seems to have slipped off the plate however.

Interesting that the B9180 drivers are also from March 2007 and it runs 'like a top'. Maybe the 8750 drivers DO work but I can't get HP support to help me get the 8750 running on Vista.

Their apparent abandonment of the 8750 (seen many posts across the Internet from other 8750 owners on Vista) doesn't fill me with warmth about investing in a new platform from HP. I wish it weren't so.

Happy that you're having success!

HP/Nikonians -- THANKS again for the gratis print!

Tim

p.s. I won't post on this here again. Apologies for hijacking the thread.

Ok, I got my print now, and it looks great!
I assume the $10 no charge for customs is nothing I need to worry about.

I also received mine the other day. Sorry to hear some of you did not get your photos sized to 13x19.

The only thing I did was to use Capture NX to do a custom crop with an aspect ratio of 13x19 and saved as JPEG with Imbeded ICC Profile unchecked.

I selected Hahnemuhle Smooth Fine Art Paper and the print looks great. The colors are about as close as you can get to what I see comparing it to my monitor.

Add me to the list of satisfied Nikonians. I just received my prints today. I ordered only a week ago on the 21st.

Thanks to esantos for the guidance on setting up the file for printing. I got just what I expected and I like the quality of the prints.

Mine just arrived today. I ordered it on the 17th. The following info was included in the confirmation email:

Additional Information:
Paper: Hahnemuhle Smooth Fine Art Paper
Border Options: with border
Paper Size: 13 x 19'' / DIN A3 (297 x 420 mm) - Nikonians Team

I have to say that after multiple iterations of disappointing prints from various places, vendors, and printers - I am very pleased with this print!

The colors are rich and very accurate, not only to what's on my screen in Adobe Lightroom, but also to what I remembered in my mind's eye.

After seeing the 9180 prints at MacWorld recently, and bringing some home, my wife asked what kind of prints everyone else got? This is one impressive printer.

Many thanks to Nikonians & HP for making this happen!

I received my prints. They were terrific. It also allowed me to see that, when my RAW photos were enlarged and printed, I was dead on with my focus, etc., and that thrilled me. I am going to seriously check into investing in this printer for my home use. WOW. Thanks to Nikonians for setting this up!!!

I got my print a few days ago and in LESS than 2 weeks! They did a great job but apparently I didn't leave enough room for a border, (I thought I did and I specified it), but no big deal, I still have plenty of room for a matte and frame. The only problem I'm having is with their "feedback" site. They said to go to
prints-by-hp@nikonians.org but it keeps coming up as "cannot find". Anyone out there know what I have to do?
