Will be traveling to Denmark the last week of July 2001. Not sure of the town, however I am told its an hour or so from Copenhagen. Looking for interesting shots and travel suggestions in this area.

Denmark is a very nice country to visit. We have been there twice. We have visited Jutland. That is the mainland, with very nice cities. Arhus is the best known place at that part. If you can you should also see Skagen. It is the most Nordic place of Denmark. Two seas come together at that spot. Copenhavn is a nice place too! If you are there you should see the Nyhavn. It is the most popular street in Copenhavn. Very nice views of old and very colourfull buildings. Nice restaurants too! Take a boattrip! I can recommend that because it will offer an overview of Kopenhavn.
I do not know a lot about the area around Kopenhavn, but it won't be hard to find interesting places to photograph. (harbours, old towns, vikingplaces, etc.) Maybe Odense is interesting (never been there though). It is the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, a very famous fairytail writer from Denmark. Roskilde is known for it's popfestival and viking remains.

I have placed a few photographs of Denmark on my homepage. If you like you can visit it at:

Thank you for the advise. I will be staying in Odense for 8 days and will travel to Copenhagen for one or two days. I have read a little about Copenhagen and must admit that I am totaly perplexed. Do you have a sunset and sunrise? The information sites ellude to the fact that its twilight just about all the time. I was hoping to shoot some sunsets while there and debating if I should bring the tripod. If there are no sunsets to shoot, I will get along with just a monopod.

Thanks for all the helpful info.

Hi..

You might be right about the sunset, and sunrises, but i guess that if you are near the waterfront, there might be a good posibility to get a good shot of the sunrise, very early in the morning. Else the westcoast of Jutland is the perfect place to to get sunset pictures.

There is also Nyhavn, with all the old buildings, and it looks great inthe mornings, and afternoons too. But you will see all that when you get here.

Odense is a great place too, lots of places and old buildings, and a beautiful nature.

Two days isen't in Copenhagen, you might have a tight agenda, but it depends of what you want to see.
I guess no matter how hard you try to plan it, time is always something you dosen't have enough off, that's my experience when I have been in the US.

Here is a few links about Copenhagen

I hope you get a nice vacation here in Wonderful Copenhagen, and let me know if i can help you with any further information.

Thanks Jan,

The sites that you posted were very helpful. I am shooting the World Championships in Odense for Trampoline and Tumbling. Though its not 100% vacation, I plan on making the very best out of my first trip to Europe.

Thanks Again

I'm also planning a trip to Denmark at 20th of July. There's going to be so much of us, we can almost make a Nikonians meeting I'll stay with my friend for about two weeks and plan to visit mostly Jutland all around.

I hear it has fantastic landscapes and old towns. Are there any other "must visit" places in Jutland?

Thanks for the info,
Gregor

Hi Gregor.

There are many fantastic places in Jutland. I can't remember them all, as it is manny years since I have been there on vacation, but to name a few, Legoland, Givskud zoo, Skagen, Loekken, Hvide Sande. If you are interested in WWII history, the beaches at Loekken,Skagen and Hanstholm has a lot of old bunkers there. In Hanstholm, you can see the biggest fortress build in Europe. Also if you like fishing, in Hansthol, you can take a trip to the yellow reef, that is a great experience.
A good advice is to visit the tourist information at the cities you come through, they have a lot of free information

Here you can see some pictures from different places in Justland, made by another tourist.

Take a look at these links:

Givskud Zoo

Skagen

Loekken

Also the citier near the german border are worth a look, but i can't pick one of them out, Jutland is a large area to cover.

Are you planning to come to Copenhagen also???

I wish you a safe journy, and a nice vacation, and let me know if I can help you with more about Denmark.

Thanks for all the information. No, I don't plan to come to Copenhagen. I think the 2-weeks trip is almost not enough to cover all of Jutland, so I'll leave Copenhagen for another ocasion.

If I have any other questions, I'll let you know, thanks.
