"Emerging darner dragonfly"

Nevis, US

Found this newly emerged darner dragonfly preparing himself for flight. That's his "exuviae" (shed larval skin) in the upper left. The background is a little distracting, but let's call it an "environmental portrait".

D300, Tamron 180mm Macro, handheld

Awesome! I just sold my 60 Micro and later will get a longer macro for the working distance. A shot like this would have probably been hard to get with a 60.

Thank you all.

I used 1/200th at f/10, and ISO 200. Bright sunlight, no flash, hand held. Got my boots full of water, too!
