Took my new 300F/4 out for a test drive and here are a few frames

All D300,300F4+36mm tube,ISO 250,tripod

American Lady,F/8@1/250

Long-tailed Skipper(rare to Ct.)F/10@1/25

Female Blue Dasher,F/9@1/80

Male Blue Dasher,F/9@1/50

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail(a little bit beat up)F/9@1/125

Another possible Blue Dasher but I can't find any images of one with all that green on its body. Maybe immature male. F/13@1/60

Congratulations on the 300f/4 Rick. I think you'll love it. I know I love mine.

Very nice set of images. The last image is I believe an immmature male Common Pondhawk. It's green like the female when immature.

Thanks John. I must have looked with my eyes closed.I did find an image on the bug guide under "common" and several under "eastern pondhawk",which I believe is the same as "common".

Great captures Rick,
I have the same combo but cannot get very sharp images,
I have the D700 and think DX is probably a better "fit" with that combo

Gary

Thanks Gary. Are you using your tripod(a must,IMO,with tubes)? John(jtmcg) gets exceptional images with his FX camera.
