"Immature male Widow Skimmer"

An intermittent fairly strong breeze was giving me fits on this outing. Did manage to get a shot or two of this guy when the breeze died down temporarily.

Quite welcome. I keep returning to have another look at this one. The detail is amazing. I can actually see its underarm hair! I know 99% of overall photo quality is the photographer, but I have to ask what lens and body you used on this.

Thanks again Wasil.

D800, 300f4 with 57mm tubes, tripod, ISO 100, Live View, Cable release.

The detail with the D800 is really great and the 300f4 is my sharpest lens even sharper than my 105f2.8. LV lets you focus very accurately and you can also more easily detect when motion stops. Also you're shooting MUP when you relase the shutter in LV. the 300f4 with tubes gets me to around 1:2, so I use it a lot for macro. I use the 105f2.8 when I need greater magnification or don't have enough room for the 300.

Thanks Alan. I find that a lot with the D800. I showed a friend a frog image that I had posted on the Wildlife forum and he made the same comment.
